| Summary: | Achieving the development of intercultural pedagogical practices for the development of citizenship competencies entails reflecting on the relationship with others and with oneself. Objective: To review the background and theoretical references for understanding intercultural pedagogical practices in the development of citizenship competencies. From the background addressed, it was evident that citizenship competencies are not limited to their transmission; they must broaden their cultural perspective in communities and in the development of intercultural dynamics that help overcome the restricted vision of modernity conceived from a rule of law that fails to enable the recognition and understanding of the accelerated changes in the contemporary world. Globalization and colonization increasingly generate greater cultural diversity and complicate the processes of cultural identities. The method used was a documentary design, with a hermeneutic method, applying the content analysis technique to systematize information. Results: Progress in intercultural citizenship competencies requires rethinking a society's democracy, incorporating changes in laws and institutions and building a democratic culture to develop values, knowledge, skills, and critical understanding for intercultural dialogue; as well as training teachers to renew their pedagogical practices. The conclusion was reached that there are a variety of models for the exercise of intercultural and democratic citizenship. This raises the need to establish educational policies that empower institutions on the topic of cultural diversity, to delve deeper into pedagogical strategies for inclusive education, and to develop teacher education programs that contribute to comprehensive citizenship training. |
