| Summary: | Marcel Proust defines writing as translation in the concluding volume of his novelistic cycle, Le temps retrouvé, and thus he places the translation task metaphorically at the centre of his ars poetica. According to this perspective, any translation of his work can be conceived as a re-translation, the translation of a translation. It is a retranslation that must respect the same criteria outlined in Marcel Proust’s implicit translation theory. If writing, according to Proust, is translating experience, understood as a flow of impressions of all kinds, it is necessary to approach the translation of À la recherche du temps perdu paying special attention to this sensorial aspect. Among the different sensations, the acoustic ones play a fundamental role due to their unwavering quality. This paper analyses some of the most representative passages in the Catalan translation authored by myself and published by Proa. |
