description Water erosion, the theme treated in this work, is widespread in the world and constitutes an important phenomenon of landscape degradation. The soils of the district of Honton in the municipality of Dogbo suffer the effects of water erosion, the main factor in the qualitative and quantitative degradation of the soil. The main objective of the study is to identify the main factors responsible for water erosion in the study environment. The specific objectives of this work were to identify the signs of erosion, to determine the causes and factors of aggravation as well as the control measures developed by the populations. A methodology based on the collection of documentary and field data was adopted. The width, length and general condition were also recorded. Also surveys were carried out with 80 individuals of the population in order to understand the perception of the phenomenon by the local populations. The erosive potential of rainfall in the study area was apprehended using the Fournier rainfall erosivity index. The results show that the rains are aggressive with an average of 40 representatives in 90% of the years considered. The topographical factor is complex and the anti-erosion techniques developed by the communities are not very effective on slopes of more than 20%. Gully erosion and the different forms of mass movement, fast or slow, are much more important than sheet erosion.
