Therefore, we select only a few significant milestones that define his activity. Mihai Ristea was born on July 14, 1939, in Segarcea, Dolj County. He graduated from the Faculty of Finance, Credit, and Accounting at the then Institute of Economic Sciences in Bucharest with a merit diploma in 1962. Subsequently, he was employed as an instructor at the Department of General Accounting, successively holding the positions of assistant, lecturer, associate professor, and full professor. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics in 1971, and in 1990 he was appointed as a Ph.D. supervisor in the field of Accounting. After the Revolution in 1989, Professor Mihai Ristea held the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Accounting (1990-1996), Vice-Rector of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (1996-1999), Head of the Department of Accounting (1999-2000), and Head of the Department of Accounting, Audit, and Management Control (2000-2008). In addition, Professor Mihai Ristea was a member of various professional bodies, specialized committees, and councils, including the National Program for Economic and Social Development of Romania initiated in 1990; the World Bank Program for Improving Accounting in Romania; the Consultative College of Accounting within the Ministry of Public Finance; the Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania (CECCAR); the National Commission for the Certification of University Titles, Diplomas, and Certificates (CNATDCU) at the Ministry of Education and Research.
