description Hypertension (HTN) is an important noncommunicable disease with important public health implications. It affects nearly one in three individuals. It has been recognized that the disease is influenced by numerous lifestyle changes that have occurred in almost all populations over the years. Dietary intervention is one of the significant first steps in the management. It involves lowering salt consumption, increasing potassium consumption, and optimizing the intake of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins among others. In this review article, the approach to dietary intervention for the prevention and control of HTN is discussed.
