Summary:Abstract: Political discourse is a kind of discourse which is associated with politics or simply the use of language in political contexts. It takes different forms; thus, it includes campaign speeches, political debates, presidents’ speeches and declarations, debates. This article explores how political discourse impacts international relations and unpacks how political leaders use language to mold public and international opinions. The article’s goal is to analyses the discourses of two leaders namely; Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin from 2012 to 2014. The choice is based on the fact that Obama dealt with two Russian presidents namely Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin during his first term (2009-2013) and continued with this latter during his second term from 2013 to 2017. Also, the international stature of the USA and Russia as the two greatest powers in the world, makes their insights and distinctions have an impact on the other countries which followed each of the two powers. So, to measure the coldness or temperature of their relationship, it is necessary to analyze the language used by them in their meetings and speeches. The qualitative data of the study is gathered from the audiovisual speeches and declarations of the two leaders. Findings revealed that the language used by both leaders indicated the existence of core differences between the two states.
