Description
Summary:The present contribution places origin, in this case Africa, within the paradigm of race. Due to different historical, social, political and economic circumstances, “being an African” carries along many representations that constitute the nexus of a set of attitudes and reactions to various realities. For example, feminism, in the generic sense of the term, is accused of being at odds with the identity of “the African woman”. The discursive analysis of the hashtag #RealAfricanWoman reveals the stigmatising scope of this identity. At the same time, it bears witness to the emergence of a new generation of activists who are asserting themselves on social networks. The analysis describes the evolution of feminism in Francophone Africa in order to locate the origins and nature of stigma. It then studies the discursive strategies implemented by Internet users and the subsequent socio-discursive issues.
