Description
Summary:Based on a case-study of Champsaur-Gapençais in the southern French Alps, this article attempts to show the processes of diversification or even coexistence of agricultural systems in this small region known to have been a laboratory for modernization and intensification of livestock farming in the 1960s and 1970s. By combining approaches in terms of social innovation and territorial resources, we characterize the dynamics of transformation in progress (Organic Agriculture, on-farm processing, short-circuit commerce and official signs of quality and origin) and assess the effects of these process on product differentiation. Finally, we discuss the non-uniform agricultural and territorial transition in connection with the complex of interplay of actors (agri-food companies, local authorities, consumers, etc.) and the difficulty of creating common governance.
