| Summary: | The call for cultural change is nothing new and covers a wide range of targets. The backdrop most often concerns the need to change people’s behavior at work. But what exactly are we talking about? The aim of this article is to propose a number of conceptual and methodological perspectives for thinking about the demands for cultural change in ergonomic intervention. On the one hand, ergonomics faces a challenge in terms of positioning the discipline in relation to the uses of the notion of culture and its inclusion in interventions. On the other hand, this is an opportunity for ergonomists, as ergonomic intervention can be seen as an accompaniment to this cultural fact at work. With its development-oriented methods of activity analysis and design, ergonomics can contribute to a situated analysis of cultural aspects at work. Based on the cultural-historical theory of activity, the text draws on examples from 3 research-interventions and suggests ways of supporting cultural dynamism in the workplace. |
