| Summary: | In May 2021, the association Va Jouer Dehors based in Marseilles mobilized teams of practitioners, teachers and student ambassadors from six cities in France to form “the world’s largest international architecture agency”. In the middle of an industrial ruin, seventy participants gathered to think about ways in which to “repair the city” in a context affected by climate change and a public health crisis. Pursuing the lines of inquiry that were sketched out during the conference, a walk through the Vieux Port became the starting point for a conversation between the architect and urban planner Anne Jauréguiberry and the artist-researcher Mathieu Tremblin. Through an infra-thin reading of space, they investigate the predilection of street artists for traces of wear and tear in the city. They observe the emergence of what could be called a ’micro-ruin’ within the renovated city, nesting in the folds of the urban fabric and in-between spaces of the city, partaking of a slow process of transformation of the urban environment. |
