Description
Summary:After the broadcast, on Saturday September 28, 2019, of Eric Zemmour's speech at the “Right Convention”, a large controversy is relayed, in the media and on social networks, on the advisability of such diffusion. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe described these remarks as "nauseating and deeply contrary to our idea of France and the Republic". Between accusations and justifications, many admit that this speech was problematic. The usual themes of the polemicist are discussed there, with many cases of remarks that may relate to discrimination, especially against women. To conduct this study, this article presents a textometric analysis of this discourse, the conclusions of which question more particularly the remarks made about women, in particular in three specific chapters of his book, Le suicide français (2014). Beyond that, the article questions the legitimacy of Eric Zemmour, by highlighting the “knowledge” and the “erudition” that he materializes in his speeches, and the way in which he manages to self-legitimize himself – in a way that gives him a certain "authority" in the media.
