Description
Summary:In Egypt, in 1930-1931, an association named al-Misrî li-l-Misrî organised a campaign which called for the boycott of British products. The famous intellectual of Coptic origin, Salâma Mûsâ launched and directed this association which was especially popular among educated youth. In 1930, a newspaper served as the spoke-piece for the association which launched a virulent campaign against the Syrians living in Egypt, denouncing them as foreigners and tools of colonial domination in Egypt. The first of its kind, this campaign was led by young nationalists who mostly addressed their thinking to other educated youth ; their articles showed a sensitivity toward the economic dimension of the nationalist struggle.
