Summary: | ABSTRACT Objectives: We present a compelling case report shedding light on the potential association between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Our patient, a 70-year-old woman with a history of anxiety, presented for the first time with symptoms consistent with OCD. Remarkably, within a relatively short period, she began manifesting Parkinson-like motor symptoms, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of PD. Methods: This case report outlines the clinical presentation of our patient, accompanied by a concise review of the current literature pertaining to the intersection of OCD and PD. Results: Our findings provide compelling evidence supporting the hypothesis that individuals with OCD, particularly those aged 50 years or older, may face an elevated risk of developing PD. Through meticulous examination and correlation with existing research, our case adds weight to the growing body of evidence suggesting a potential link between these two seemingly disparate pathologies. Conclusions: The present case underscores the urgent need for further investigation into the intricate relationship between OCD and PD. By unraveling the underlying pathomechanisms and shared pathways, invaluable insights into the etiology and progression of these disorders could be offered, potentially paving the way for more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. |
