Description
Summary:Suburbanisation is about to represent an unsustainable model of urban development for consummating space, energy and equipments. In this context, the tragic floods which affected Cuxac d’Aude village (Aude, France) in 1999 can be explained by hazardous choices of planning suburban neighbourhood in risky places. The ethnographical research proposes an other approach which focuses on the bonds with the territory and the residential practices. For the deep wine crises of the 70’s and 80’s in Languedoc, the urbanization of old vineyards participates to the modernization of rural areas. After the floods, the inhabitants define new domestic practices in damaged houses. The suburban villa is no more the modern symbol of happiness but is the place of fear, stress and risk culture.
