Description
Summary:In order to realize chamfering tooth crest for spiral bevel gear efficiently, the feasibility of chamfering method with spherical cutter and machining center is researched. The solid models of gear and cutter are established, the initial values of cutting parameters are obtained by collision analysis between gear and cutter. A quantitative measuring method for shape error is proposed in order to satisfy shape accuracy requirement of tooth crest. The cutting parameters of chamfering are optimized aiming to minimize shape error. Cutting models of machining centers are established and cutting processes simulation are preformed, the results show that chamfering tooth crest for spiral bevel gear on 3-axis machining center is feasible. Cutting positions on spherical cutter can be controlled by redundant degree of freedom of movement if 4-axis or 5-axis machining center is available. When the segment of cutter which do not contact with the gear is removed, spherical cutter can be simplified to disk-shaped cutter which has longer circumference and slower wear speed.
