Description
Summary:Using quantitative and qualitative data from the survey “Life during Lockdown” (Vico), this article analyzes the effects of lockdown during spring 2020 in France from a gender perspective by questioning temporalities, their uses and their articulation within families. With the closure of institutions and professionals mobilized in ordinary time, the lockdown has led to an intensification of care work in families (reorganization of family time and space, domestic and parental work, relational work) which has particularly preoccupied and occupied the female respondents in the survey. Work/family balance was particularly challenged during this period, and many female respondents had to try to balance what was intertwined. The extreme porosity of temporalities induced by the lockdown may have been gendered and led to a sharp decrease in ordinary restorative time-spaces that are essential to the reconstitution of the capacities of care.
