description This action-research project investigates learner practices levels of autonomy of university students using a logbook to record activities and reflections on learning English in a multi-level language classroom. Analyses of logbooks revealed that some first-year students had very little ability to work autonomously but that others relied on a wide range of language learning strategies to accomplish their language goals. Overall, the language program should be adjusted to further the efficiency of the logbook as a component for developing autonomy.
