He never tries to become rich. The character’s key is his love for liberty. He knows the philosophers very well, yet he’s an authentic catholic as far as faith and cult are concerned. What he sees in Paris and Rome lead him to ignore completely the Church’s hierarchical aspects. His Historia de la Revolución de Nueva España (London, 1813) was widely read. At the end of his life, he was a very good deputy. |
