| description | The present contribution investigates established colonial logic on the basis of Máret Ánne Sara’s work Pile o’Sápmi and emphasizes the hybrid identity of the Saami by revealing internal power conflicts and the reproduction of dominant narratives. Using the Foucaldian concept of the power-knowledge nexus, this paper examines three main points. Firstly, it focuses on the artist’s colonial criticism of the forced reduction of reindeer herds for environmental protection purposes. In a second part, it addresses the influence of colonial discourse on the anthropocentric conception of reindeer herding. A final section is devoted to analyzing the reindeer as a symbol in the national construction of the Saami people. |
