Description
Summary:Background: This study aimed to provide foundational data on the potential for enamel erosion and discoloration caused by the liquid phase of dual-form multivitamins by analyzing changes in surface microhardness and color of bovine enamel. Methods: Orthomol Immun, Immune Duo Multi Vita Max, and Daily Engine Immune Booster Shot served as the experimental groups. Orange Juice was used as the positive control, and Samdasoo as the negative control. Bovine enamel specimens were treated with the solutions for 2 minutes daily over 28 days, followed by immersion in artificial saliva to simulate pH cycling. Enamel erosion and discoloration were assessed via microhardness testing and colorimetry, respectively. Results: The pH values of the tested solutions were as follows: Daily Engine Immune Booster Shot (2.82±0.02), Immune Duo Multi Vita Max (3.25±0.01), Orthomol Immun (4.34±0.01), Orange Juice (3.59±0.00), and Samdasoo (7.62±0.01). After 28 days of pH cycling, the greatest reduction in surface microhardness occurred in the Daily Engine Immune Booster Shot group (–65.80±5.18), followed by Immune Duo Multi Vita Max (–61.47±5.58), Orange Juice (–59.58±3.37), Orthomol Immun (–56.24±7.14), and Samdasoo (–1.26±3.41). The highest color difference (ΔE) was observed with Orthomol Immun (7.00±1.48), followed by Daily Engine Immune Booster Shot (6.54±3.07), Immune Duo Multi Vita Max (5.10±3.08), Orange Juice (4.10±2.00), and Samdasoo (2.88±1.80). Conclusion: Dual-form multivitamin liquids with low pH may cause enamel erosion and tooth discoloration. Therefore, proper oral hygiene practices—such as rinsing with water after intake, delaying tooth brushing, and using fluoride-containing products—are recommended to support remineralization.
