Summary:The analytical object of the present article is to identify actions for transmission of photographic images in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The central hypothesis is that photographs are impregnated by cultural modernity, which affects the representation of persons and the passage from the private to the public sphere. This approach involves moral, cultural and media aspects that relocate the role of photography in a country like Chile.
