| description | French universities are currently undergoing several reforms. The building of a European model would lead to a more liberal system. University autonomy and the vocationalisation of curricula are among the key words of this model. However, this hybridization of the public service had entered nearly unnoticed into the universities since 1971 with the creation of lifelong training units, competing with similar non-university training outfits. From the funding to the course contents and certification, the recruitment of instructors and trainees, everything distinguishes those services from other university units (departments, faculties). But their implication in all vocational training programmes has given them visibility and legitimacy to transform the organizational and management norms of universities. In doing so, they are contributing to the hybridization of the French university model. |
