Description
Summary:Burn injuries pose a significant clinical challenge throughout the world, often leading to high mortality rates. Immediate and appropriate intervention at the accident site is crucial in improving patient outcomes. Essential first steps include ensuring personal safety, securing basic life support, assessing the surface area and depth of burns, and initiating fluid resuscitation. This article provides an in-depth summary of burn injury management, covering all stages from prehospital care to emergency departments (ED) and specialised Burn Units. Accurate diagnosis using tools such as the rule of nine and Lund-Browder charts is essential to guide treatment. Furthermore, pharmacotherapy, oxygen therapy, and wound care management play a vital roles in improving prognosis and recovery. A well-coordinated emergency response at the accident site, followed by seamless care in emergency departments and burn units, can significantly reduce mortality rates and complications. Educating healthcare providers on these treatment strategies is essential to ensure timely and effective care, ultimately enhancing survival and long-term patient outcomes.
