Description
Summary:Abstract The aim of the article is to evaluate the intensity of Facebook usage by young adults in relation to their social competences and understanding of emotions. Material and methods In the presented research the diagnostic survey method was used. The questionnaire included: Facebook Use Intensity Questionnaire (KIUF) by Kuś and Szulżycki, Social Competence Profile (PROKOS) by Matczak and Kartowska, Test of Understanding Emotions (TRE) by Matczak and Piekarska, and demographic characteristics. Results The obtained results indicate that most people do not subordinate their lives to Facebook. Social competences and the respondents' understanding of emotions are usually at levels below the average, which may lead to excessive involvement in some online activities. The statistical analysis showed that social competences have the greatest impact on Facebook celebrities and social competences on Players. Conclusions Because of the demonstrated low social competences and understanding of emotions among young adults, more attention should be paid to these issues in education.
