Description
Summary:A 35 year male presented with wooden stick injury and corneal infiltrates. On KOH wet mount, light brown coloured septate round shaped structures – “sclerotic bodies” were visible. Such bodies also known as Copper Pennies are characteristically found in pigmented fungus - Fonsecaea species. The patient was put on Natamycin eye drops (1%), however he worsened on treatment. The patient was started on oral and topical Voriconazole (1%) and responded favorably. The infiltrates healed and no recurrences were seen at 12 week follow up. We conclude that unusual pigmented fungus may be resistant to conventional treatment however may respond to voriconazole.
