description This article aims to analyze the challenges arising from the different management of protected areas located in the border area of the Transboundary Pantanal (Bolivia-Brazil-Paraguay). In order to achieve this goal, we analyzed the policies and laws aimed at the conservation of environments, the management systems of protected areas and the main conservation initiatives aimed in this region carried out by Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay. With regard to methodological procedures, these involved a combination of field research, interviews and bibliographic research. As for the field research, visits were made to government institutions responsible for the management of protected areas in the three countries, visits to some NGOs, and later to the protected areas object of this analysis, in which we conducted interviews and collected data and information. Thus, we observed that the protected areas analyzed interfere with the territorial dynamics of this environment and produce new territories characterized by appropriation, restricted use and conservation initiatives. As result of this process, conflicts arise that involve subjects, nation states and interest groups. This allows us to conclude that the actions and regulations aimed at the management of protected areas in this region must take into account the totality of this environment, since the presence of the frontier is defined/identified only by the subjects and not for the elements of nature.
