Description
Summary:This short text is a reworked version of the preamble to a recent habilitation thesis for conducting research devoted to landscape action (2020). It is therefore a reflexive exercise conducted by a teacher-researcher on his own practice of a sport which also inspires him in his work as a geographer. The topic is the spatial experience of a cyclist within the landscape. The aim is to give an account of the relationship he engages in with the landscapes he traverses from the roads on which he travels on in different regions. Particular attention is paid to these roads, not only as infrastructures from which the landscape is perceived, but as objects of the landscape themselves with their own qualities (what is a beautiful road from the point of view of a cyclist?). The second central idea focuses on the various spatial skills acquired by the cyclist as he practises the sport. Finally, the effort and pleasure of the sport lead to a reflection on the corporeality of this experience of the landscape with which the cyclist is traversed as he traverses the landscape.
