Description
Summary:Studies on graphic communication, such as the page layout of a given document, have highlighted the visual structures that frame writing and shape it according to the various discursive functions of the text. These studies have contributed to a better understanding of the influence these structures have on a cognitive level during the reading process. New online media, characterized by their complexity and “dematerialized” nature, renew previous visual patterns and impose new regimes of visibility and textual organization inherent in the technical properties of the web medium. The purpose of this article is to observe from a global perspective the graphic organization of online newspapers, in the light of some factors involved in their production. Since a website has its own history “within” this medium, it is possible to examine the textual genre of the image in order to recognize the enunciative modalities it triggers, and the functions that writing develops in this new graphical partition.
