Description
Summary:Foundation: the importance of calculating global cardiovascular risk in patients and the benefits of its implementation in Primary Health Care have been demonstrated, despite this, in Cienfuegos, studies on its estimation are insufficient.
Objective: determine the global cardiovascular risk in workers between 40 and 80 years of age at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos in 2021.
Method: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. The sample was made up of 256 workers between 40 and 80 years old from the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos in 2021. The variables studied were: age, gender, total cholesterol, smoking, systolic blood pressure, diagnosed diabetes mellitus and global cardiovascular risk. The absolute and relative frequency of the variables were calculated, and Pearson's Chi square was applied to the association of the variables and cardiovascular risk with a significance level of p=0.05. The results were presented in tables.
Results: the female gender predominated, the age group of 50-59 years, non-diabetics, non-smokers, with normal cholesterol and normal systolic blood pressure. 83.2 % had low global cardiovascular risk. Non-diabetic, non-smoking patients with normal systolic blood pressure presented a lower cardiovascular risk, which was statistically significant.
Conclusions: workers at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos have a low global cardiovascular risk, they show a correlation between low cardiovascular risk and non-diabetic, non-smoking patients with normal systolic blood pressure, which would condition protection against cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in the future.
