| Summary: | Much coastal and marine pollution by oil spills have been registered for the last thirty years. Literature review shows many studies which goal is to assess and to map such coastal events. Coastal vulnerability assessment is a necessity to anticipate oil spills. This involves spatial approach of socio economic and environmental parameters. There are many accurate studies of environmental parameters. This is not the case for socio economic parameters. So we only have partial knowledge of theses socio economic parameters from which we could extract direct and indirect costs of an oil spill impact. Indeed we have difficulties to compute a global vulnerability index taking into account both environmental and socio economic parameters. Such parameters are first discussed in this paper through a literature review. We show progress in mapping assessment of such hazards. Then we propose a new way to assess and to map a global vulnerability index. We compute it along the island of Noirmoutier coastline, off the France‘s west coast. |
