| description | At the turn of the 1970s, the collection “Petite Planète”, published by Les Éditions Seuil from 1954, underwent several major changes to make it more attractive and contemporary. This modernization enterprise will find its peak with the launch, in 1977, of a parallel series devoted to the large towns and cities hitherto neglected by the collection: “Petite Planète/villes”. This carefully thought-out series, the development of which will take several years, will push even further the changes already initiated in the main collection under the direction of Simonne Lacouture towards more conventional volumes, with a more practical and touristic vocation. This article proposes, first of all, to trace the editorial history of "Petite Planète/villes" from its genesis to its launch on the market. By analyzing certain elements of the paratext and the content, it also tends to demonstrate how this collection was part of this attempt at modernization. |
