| Summary: | This article is an attempt to explain the Englishness/ Britishness dichotomy and evoke the sonorous, glorious attributes of historic heritage and patriotic emotion that belong to England rather than Britain. Englishness and Britishness can be viewed as two entities making a clear dissimilarity between an ethnic and a civic identity embraced in political, and social pride, and nationhood. Another aim of this article is to portray the translation strategies used to convey the meaning of these national identity concepts.
