| Summary: | With Enquête sur les modes d'existence (Latour 2012a), Latour reveals a dimension of his work hitherto overshadowed by actor-network theory. At the heart of his analysis, he introduces things that last beyond action and networks, different regimes of truth, attached to as many modes of existence. Is this a complete break with actor-network theory, whose collective experimentation - exploring shared worlds and building collectives - is at the heart of political action? On the contrary, I suggest in this text that the concept of mode of existence makes it possible to overcome the theoretical and empirical limits of collective experimentation. Because it introduces a plurality of regimes of truth, the notion leads us to think differently about the place and role of collective experimentation in the democratic order. |
