| Summary: | Abstract: Michigan developed a method to census wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) in winter as a basis for distributing hunters by area during spring hunts. The relationships between spring harvest and the winter census counts were analyzed for 1982, 1983, and 1984. The number of wild turkeys harvested was significantly related to the winter census count (r=0.74, P<0.05). The potential for using census counts for establishing hunter quotas is discussed. |
