description In this paper, we follow a few documentary filmmakers from Morocco and Tunisia who have crossed paths with contemporary art during their career. We begin by questioning the reasons why contemporary art attracts these filmmakers: they try to adapt their practice to a restrictive cinema system, and to achieve differently their documentary ambitions. These adaptation strategies led collectives to conceive new ways of creating and exhibiting, in order to allow artists from all background to meet another public. In Tunisia, a collective of young artists, ‘Révolutions’, aims at oversteping aesthetical and political limits. In Morocco, associative organisations are conceiving new curatorial forms, close to performance, to enable arts to overlap. What is at stake here is exceeding national cinema circuits, and building a new world of art, where genre and country borders would have become outdated.
