Description
Summary:Below pH 4 aqueous Ag⊕-zeolite dispersions produce Cl2 in the presence of Cl⊖ with high quantum yield when irradiated at λ = 370 nm. On changing from acid to alkaline conditions a change from chlorine to oxygen production is observed. Both processes can be sensitized over the whole visible spectrum by means of self-sensitization. Self-sensitization means that systems which are first insensitive to light of a certain wavelength become photoactive after they have been irradiated with light of higher energy. The pH-dependence of the photochemical oxygen and chlorine evolution from an aqueous silver zeolite dispersion in presence of Cl⊖ is reported.
