Description
Summary:Distribution and population of Quercus spinosa were surveyed in the restricted natural reserve in Longtantou, Xianju County of Zhejiang Province. On the basis of the data obtained, dominant populations, community type and population structure were analyzed. The results show that: (i) The communities where Q. spinosa plants are located could be divided into three types, namely, Cunninghamia lanceolata-Schima superba community, Pinus taiwanensis-Schima superba community and Quercus fabri-Castanopsis eyrei community. Growth and development of Q. spinosa plants in Quercus fabri-Castanopsis eyrei community are better than that of other communities. (ii) Q. spinosa plants grow in regions of mountains at relatively low elevation, with c.8100 individuals covering a total area of 187 hm2.(iii) Population structure of Q. spinosa, which consists of 5 age classes, is stable, although the sapling reserves are not adequate and the population is liable to decline. Proposals and measures for the protection of Q. spinosa are put forward in the paper.
