Summary:The french Wars of religion (1562-1598) involve memory in a very strange way. Indeed, each pacification edict is an opportunity for the french Crown to impose forgetfulness of recent wars between Catholics and Protestants. These “politics of forgiveness” aimed to enforce stability of the new peace, but faced a lot of obstacles: what kind of resistance dit it provoke? How to measure the effectiveness of these politics? How did the peace commissioners manage to compel forgetfulness?
