Description
Summary:In the tourist, religious and historical axis in Porto Velho/RO, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral stands out. However, little is known about the fact that the location of the current Getúlio Vargas Palace and the Rondônia State Museum (MERO) were located in the First Prelature of Porto Velho. The general objective of this work is to investigate the creation of the first prelacy of Porto Velho-RO in the period of 1917-1922. The specific objectives are to investigate the urbanization process between the city of Porto Velho and the railway section, understand the reasons for the construction of the church where it is currently located and question the silence of the history of the First Prelacy for the population of Porto Velho. The methods used included bibliographic and documentary research. Bibliographical works such as: Father Victor Hugo, "Os Desbravadores" Vol. I, II and III; Esron de Menezes, “Retalhos para a História de Rondônia”; Antônio Cantanhede, "Achegas para a História de Porto Velho", in addition to iconographic sources such as maps of the city at the time.
