| description | [Objective] Based on the actual unbalanced development of reclaimed water utilization in various regions of the Yellow River Basin, this study aimed to formulate differentiated regional measures for reclaimed water utilization to provide references for the planning, construction, and targeted measures to systematically advance wastewater resource utilization in the basin. [Methods] This study focused on the urban agglomerations in the Yellow River Basin, measured their reclaimed water utilization levels (RWULs) from 2018 to 2022, and analyzed their spatial characteristics using the Pythagorean Triangular Fuzzy VIKOR multi-attribute decision-making method, standard deviational ellipse analysis, cold and hot spots analysis, and social network analysis methods. Based on the results, differentiated promotion modes for RWULs of urban agglomerations were established, and their simulated implementation effects were evaluated. [Results] (1) The measurement results and spatial distribution of the RWULs of urban agglomerations in the Yellow River Basin exhibited two characteristics: the RWULs have been significantly improved, gradually transitioning from low to high levels; and the RWULs were not balanced in development, with significant differences between the upstream, midstream, and downstream urban agglomerations. (2) The standard deviational ellipse of the RWULs of urban agglomerations in the basin was primarily oriented in the northwest direction. The hot spot areas of the RWULs covered most of the central part of the basin, while the cold spot areas were located at the periphery. The dual spatial correlation network of the RWULs exhibited characteristics of unbalanced development and differentiated structures. (3) The Ningxia along the Yellow River and Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos-Yulin urban agglomerations could adopt the urban agglomeration radiation-type reclaimed water utilization mode; the Lanzhou-Xining, Guanzhong Plain, Central Plains, and Shandong Peninsula urban agglomerations could adopt the central city radiation-type reclaimed water utilization mode; the Jinzhong urban agglomeration could adopt the urban agglomeration siphon-type reclaimed water utilization mode, to increase their RWULs. In addition, the simulated effectiveness of the promotion modes for RWULs of urban agglomerations indicates that these modes had significant positive effects on improving regional RWULs. [Conclusion] The adoption of differentiated regional promotion modes for RWULs can precisely improve the RWULs of each urban agglomeration in the Yellow River Basin. This can address the challenging issue of unbalanced development of reclaimed water utilization at a regional scale, further promoting ecological conservation and high-quality development across the basin. |
