Description
Summary:A feather-degrading fungus strain was isolated from sewage sludge on a farm for animal husbandry. After cultivated on potato sugar agar medium at 28℃ for 10 days, a colony of 3 centimeters in diameter was formed. Its hyphae were 2-3 μm in diameter with regular septa and plurinuclear. It was characterized by macronematous penicillate conidiophores, and the divergent phialides consisted of a swollen base tapering into a rather long and slender neck. The isolate was identified as Paecilomyces Bain. Its optimal temperature was 30℃ and optimal pH was 9. Ca2+, Mg2+ and Tween-20 were found to stimulate the keratinase activity.
