Effect of free phosphine on denitrification

The effect of free phosphine on denitrification was investigated in the batch experiment. It was found that high phosphine concentration (0.50 mL/L and 0.97 mL/L) inhibited the conversion of nitrate when nitrate concentration was low (70 mg/L and 140 mg/L). However, the inhibition was not so obvious...

Description
Summary:The effect of free phosphine on denitrification was investigated in the batch experiment. It was found that high phosphine concentration (0.50 mL/L and 0.97 mL/L) inhibited the conversion of nitrate when nitrate concentration was low (70 mg/L and 140 mg/L). However, the inhibition was not so obvious when nitrate concentration was high (210 mg/L and 280 mg/L). The increase in nitrate concentration could alleviate the phosphine inhibition. Possibly the phosphine inhibition was competitive. Furthermore, phosphine showed also an inhibitory effect on the growth of denitrifying bacteria and the inhibition was enhanced with the advance of time.
