description The province of New Brunswick, located in eastern Canada, is very affected by the floods. Although less documented than the hazard, the human dimension of the risk, especially the notion of vulnerability is important for the adaptation of populations. This article provides an overview of the main concepts related to vulnerability and presents their application on the scale of a medium-sized watershed. The results show the need to simultaneously consider perception and preparedness for the risk of flooding. Indeed, if certain residents in risk areas have a good knowledge of floods and a realistic perception of the risk, this does not necessarily translate into suitable and adequate preparation for the risk. Risk reduction undeniably requires better awareness and education of the population.
