| Summary: | Story that has an important place in children’s literature is a type of writing that attracts children’s attention as much as other jenres and that has a fine feature between poetry and novel. Especially, in teaching through stories, a bridge is built between theoretical and practical knowledge by relating subjects to everyday life. With the help of the bridge built between the two elements, the misconceptions in minds of children are more easily eliminated. Therefore, providing children with education through stories has become a preferred way in helping them acquire the desired behaviour. In addition, stories can be utilized in the language acquisition too. Stories that include good examples of Turkish language can make positive contribution to children’s language development, as well as to their cultural upbringing. For this purpose, in this study, frequency use of rich examples of Turkish language were examined in children’s stories of Muharrem Tahsin and Nadiye Ahmet who are both two important representatives of the Balkan Turks literature. As a result of the study, when stories of the two writers are compared it is found that stories of Nadiye Ahmet are rich in Turkish-language related cultural elements compared to stories of Muharrem Tahsin(Nadiye Ahmet f:219; Muharrem Tahsin f:129), and that both of the writers used, especially, aphorisms and proverbs insufficiently in their stories(Nadiye Ahmet-aphorisms f:2; Muharrem Tahsin-aphorisms f:1/Nadiye Ahmet-proverbs f:2; Muharrem Tahsin-proverbs f:0). |
