description The theatrical sphere of Russia is represented by state and private theaters, repertory and non-repertory productions, all types and genres of theatrical art. In addition, a significant proportion of groups remain in the field of amateur theatrical creativity, many of which position themselves as copyright independent theaters. The article deals with the problems of a stereotyped approach to the creation of an amateur theatrical group, suggests methods for developing a creative approach for student directors to compose an author's model of a modern theater that has its own original, unique face. The author considers the problem of creating an author's theater through a retrospective analysis, gives examples from the practice of Russian cultural figures K.S. Stanislavsky and N.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, proving the hypothesis of the successful construction of the author's theater only through a creative approach. Theater as a work of art is the main thesis of the article. The main purpose of the article is to prove the need for the formation of a creative approach to activity among future directors of amateur theaters. At the stage of study in an educational organization, the student should be supported by the desire to search for new forms of the author's theater, aim at the author's design of the theater group. Using an activity approach in training and educating future directors of amateur groups, teachers can apply techniques aimed at developing fantasy and moving away from stereotyping, for example, game modeling. Successful activity in the creation of the author's theater, as well as the search for one's own theater, is a reflection of the personality of the director himself. First of all, the process of creating a theater is creative, and only then commercial. The author's theater will be successful only when it is interesting not only to the members of the team, but also to the audience, critics and, as a result, sponsors.
