Description
Summary:The cycle opened with the Enlightenment and closed at the time of the Restoration saw the outbreak of the French Revolution and the diffusion of its ideas in the Atlantic world. The fear caused in the societies of the Old Regime provoked an ideological reaction against the disasters of the successive wars that took place until 1814-1815. The defenders of absolutism were active detractors of the revolutionary conquests and apologists for the traditional alliance between the throne and the altar. The reactionaries postulated an ideology against the effects of the revolution and the Napoleonic avalanche, which they understood as a fierce fight against war and in favor of a peace once insured by the established monarchical order.
