Description
Summary:Austrian Arms Exports to the Global South. The Discourse About Tank Exports in Public Service Broadcasting In the 1970s and 1980s, the Austrian arms industry sold a high proportion of their production to authoritarian regimes and dictatorships in the Global South. If these arms exports, especially tank sales, came to public attention it resulted in a storm of indignation, criticism, and protest. This bachelor thesis examines the reasons for the great public interest in these exports and analyses the discourses as well as arguments for and against the arms deals by looking at radio broadcasts. Radio broadcasts as source material are especially interesting, since they provide supposedly objective reporting independent of political biases.
