This article analyzes the very divisive and contrasting reactions that this unexpected as much as temporary text created among the Spanish academic community until its quick repeal in 1922. The improvisation and the unrealistic nature of some of its financial provisions were denounced. But above all, this reform made university life dependent on local political, religious and economic circles, and raised strong fears about the loss of academic independence. |
