Summary:This study opens a discussion on issues of social integration around reading in the territory of French Guiana. The socio-economic handicaps the development of reading are particularly important in this department french. The Guyana who does not belong to a reading society, is an oral society torn between modernity by reading and writing and oral tradition. The studies propose to go beyond the simple diagnosis to consider development strategies designed to popularize reading in this department, for example with the development of the public reading from library on a boat to meet the isolation of populations. In this society marked by the large proportion of illiteracy and illiteracy, and low practice of reading, equal access to reading is challenge for the future of this territory.
