Description
Summary:Having briefly explored the history of biblical exegesis, the author shows how the question of objectivity is addressed today in the field of exegesis. The aim, for an exegete who is also a teacher in a school of theology, is to interpret the biblical text, in other words, to account for the “world proposal,” as Ricœur called it, that it deploys. In order to do this, a critical distance must be maintained towards any dogmatic formulation, religious tradition or particular school of thought. To make a detour through history is therefore necessary, insofar that the critical distance brought about by historical enquiry functions as a challenge to any ideological capture of the text–this ideological capture being a risk which no one, theologian or not, may claim to escape.
